Meanwhile many coins are backward looking: they take an existing meme that is either at or past its peak in relevance, which inevitably tails off
These are your standard memecoins, which often rely on one joke or phrase, i.e., they lack dimension. There’s only so far a meme like this can go before it becomes trite, especially in the context of crypto where a community will shove it down your throat as part of the shilling process
I’d rather bet on the former category than the latter personally. These represent an evolution in memecoins rather than simply trying to recreate the next Doge/Pepe/Wif, which many on CT are nostalgic for
CT likes the “safety” of coins that are vaguely reminiscent of these, but you can’t recreate lightning in a bottle. These coins felt novel at the time, which is exactly why they were exciting and allowed to go on massive runs, i.e., they didn’t feel safe
